Goodwood Revival 2013 – Friday

This weekend was to be dominated with the Goodwood Revival taking place at the aerodrome and circuit. Working under media accreditation I was looking for a mixture of the action on the circuit, but also some of the period scenery and clothing which makes this such a special event. Whilst this was my first Goodwood Revival I had plenty of experience of working at the Festival of Speed which takes place in July every year, and so I packed with mobility in mind, and set of extra early to ensure that I could get along the A27 before the roads became congested, and the route to parking overwhelmed.

Victorious Festival 2013 – Saturday: Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

I have to say I had been looking forward to the Victorious Festival 2013 for some time having got my media accreditation confirmed a while back. Everything looked perfect, and updates from the team behind the event kept building the suspense. Typically the weather which had been glorious transitioned less than 24 hours before and it was grey skies and threatening rain on the day. Ideal for some of the candid portraits I was looking to take of visitors to the event, with soft flattering light, but not so much the blue skied August Bank Holiday vibe I wanted for some of my other images.

2013 Fastnet Race – Start Viewed from Hurst Castle

Start of the 2013 Fastnet Race Every two years one of the iconic yacht races sets sail from Cowes on the Isle of Wight and today it was the start of the 2013 Fastnet Race. I positioned myself somewhat precariously on some large rocks forming a breakwater at the... read more

British Colleges Sport – National Netball Team: Season Finale at Surrey Sports Park

This end of season tournament pitches the national netball team against NTL opposition and other teams – this year Team South, Team Bath and Shooting Stars provided teams for a day of netball which took place across two courts in one of the large arenas. BCS had two teams playing from the squad and so there was continuous round-robin action all day culminating in two Fastnet matches.

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2013

I have been a regular (every 2 years) visitor to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for some time now, but this year covered it as an accredited photographer for an agency. I had an open brief, and the luxury of multiple days to cover the many aspects of the show whether that was the hill climb itself, rallye stage, Goodwood Action Sports (GAS) arena, the car show stands, airshow, and the many displays as well as the throbbing paddock of cars and bikes.

Mumsnet and Bounty – Hospital Baby Photography

The debate continues to rumble on as my twitter feed regularly throws out another Mumsnet post on Bounty reps / photographers and their actions in maternity wards at hospitals. As you would expect much of the conversation is about the negative experience which new mothers are having as they recover from giving birth and their feelings on the behaviour of Bounty reps at this time. As a dad myself we experienced the same situation, but fortunately I was on the ward myself at the time the rep arrived and handled the situation on my wife’s behalf.

Aegon International Tennis: Devonshire Park – Eastbourne

Last week I spent most of my days in sunny (but also rainy and windy) Eastbourne at Devonshire Park for the Aegon International Tennis. This tournament is a combined WTA Tour and ATP Tour 250 event featuring 7 of the top 10 women players in the world an a strong mens tournament.

Aegon Championships Tennis at Queens Club – Tuesday 11th June

These images were taken on Tuesday 11th June at the Aegon Championships at Queens Club, London. Tuesday was a day out for me, and these images are personal work and not for sale, the main point of the trip was to catch up with a friend and actually watch some tennis ! That said it is always good to have an opportunity to get your eye in again when shooting sport and I was really pleased how quickly I got my timing in given that I hadn’t shot any tennis for a couple of months, albeit that I only shot a few frames over the day. That alone will serve me well over the rest of the grass court season.

Kitesurfing and Windsurfing at Hill Head – Thursday 13th June

You know that feeling when you see the weather forecast for the following day and the words 50 mile per hour gusts are announced. No not terror, or the fear of disruption, but the small kick of adrenaline as you think about the effect that will have on the water and the possibilities to harness that wind with a sail.

Fareham Newborn Photographer – 10 day old baby girl

Another little baby girl for this Hampshire newborn photographer to capture images of. Mum called us when she was 4 days old, and we were able to fit this little one’s session in a few days later so that we could have her photographed at 10 days old, towards the end of the sweet spot for our style of newborn photography.

Hampshire Newborn Photography – Newborn baby girl

Baby B’s mum contacted us whilst she was about 6 months pregnant to get some information about our Hampshire newborn photography and reserved a session slot with us shortly afterwards. When she arrived a little early it meant that we were able to make sure we fitted her in within the ideal timeframe for her to be photographed and she is about 10 days old in these images.

Hampshire Location Maternity Photos at Holly Hill – Fareham

I photographed Martin & Christie’s wedding back in 2011 in the New Forest, and it was clear that we would become good friends as well as having a client-photographer relationship. Having moved to the local area from Leeds we have been able to keep in touch and it was lovely to hear that Christie was pregnant, and of course fantastic to be able to photograph her, and Martin close to the end of her pregnancy.

BCS National Championships 2013 – Sunday 24th March

Sunday always evokes mixed emotions at the BCS National Championships. Your knees and back ache from the kneeling and carrying of kit for two days and a severe lack of sleep, and a hot bath and long sit down are welcoming thoughts, but it is sad to know that you have only a few hours left in the amazing environment created at Bath University by the BCS organisers, volunteers and athletes. Finally there is the excitement of shooting another day of top quality sport.

BCS National Championships 2013 – Saturday 23rd March

Saturday always sees the most diverse, and challenging days to photograph at the BCS National Championships, and this year was no different. I had an additional photographer working with me today to ensure that we covered all of the events which only took place on this one middle day of the championships, as well as getting key coverage of some of the other sports which also take place on the Sunday

2013 BCS National Championships – Friday 22nd March

Friday had arrived, the start of a weekend that 2500+ athletes had been waiting for – a chance to represent their region in their chosen sport at the British Colleges Sport – BCS National Championships held at the magnificent facilities of Bath University. Having made the the necessary packing and timing changes I arrived up in Bath around 10am and headed in to the offices to meet up with the organisers. It was a great feeling to see large banners throughout the Bath main sports facility with images from last years championships
