Autumn Family Portraits – New Forest

It was great to hear from one of our previous clients who was looking for some Autumn family portraits to be taken. Having previously photographed them in a bump session and then when their little girl was born I was looking forward to seeing them again now that she was a little lady and able to walk around.

P1 Superstock final round at Stokes Bay – Gosport: Saturday

Today was the first day of the final round of the P1 Superstock series and it was held a short distance from the studio in Stokes Bay, Gosport. The PR team at P1 Superstock were extremely helpful and welcoming, and so I prepared to shoot this for my agency – looking forward to covering some powerboat racing for the first time.

Victorious Festival 2014 in Southsea – Sunday

After a reasonable amount of sleep and a relaxing morning I again headed over to the Victorious Festival 2014 site. My route was now well known and I was soon back and inside. There were certainly fewer people around, and I took the opportunity to grab some food from a stall I hadn’t been able to queue for during yesterdays busy set list – the food at the festival was excellent and lots of variety as well.

Victorious Festival 2014 in Southsea – Saturday

I covered the Victorious Festival in 2013 at the Historic Dockyard for my agency and have a number of good usages across both print and digital media from the event so I was keen to attend this years larger festival which had outgrown the fixed area of the dockyard and moved to it’s new home on the seafront near Southsea Castle. Boasting two large stages with expanded, and natural amphitheatre viewing for the crowds and more room for food, stalls and children’s entertainment the festival was expecting crowds of 40,000 and Saturday was a sell out.

Chilli Fiesta 2014 – chilli and music festival at West Dean

Today I headed over to West Dean in Sussex to photograph the Chilli Fiesta 2014 a food festival in honour of the mighty chilli and the very many varieties. Set in the grounds of West Dean college the festival ran over two days with love music into the night, camping, dancing and of course eating. I had planned to go on the first of the three days but the weather forecast showed that the only day with blue skies and no rain was to be the Saturday and it was a good choice.

Recent sabbatical from the blog

You may have noticed a lack of blog entries recently. It has been a busy few months delivering on our commitments to our commercial and agency clients as well as our individual clients.

This year the blog drew the short straw on what didn’t get done and so apologies for the radio silence.

2014 BCS National Championships at Bath University – Day Two: Saturday

Saturday is always the busiest day for photography and these BCS National Championships were no different. An extra photographer is drafted in to compensate for the time taken to cover both the cross-country and swimming both of which only take place on the Saturday. The day started early, and with the short trip from the hotel to Bath University completed it was time for the photographic team to meet up and discuss the days events over a large coffee in the sports hall cafe.

Venice Carnival 2014: Day Two

I collected a breakfast bag from the front desk, and ate it on the short journey to St Marks Square, ensuring I was ready on arrival to start shooting shortly before 7:30am. It was certainly less crowded and there were a large number of costumed people already posing by the gondolas and in the colonnades of the Doge’s Palace. I kicked myself for not making it out at least 30 minutes earlier for sunrise but then quickly switched into shooting mode to make the most of the warm directional morning light on another beautiful day at the Venice Carnival 2014 .

Venice Carnival 2014: Day One

The Venice Carnival (Carnevale di Venezia) has been on my bucket list for many years, and this year I managed to organise a flight and hotel in enough time to make is a possibility – I also arranged to cover it for an agency who sorted my media accreditation out for me. The Venice Carnival runs for three weeks gradually building over time.

Baby Boy Portraits – Newborn 4 Days Old

Today we welcomed Baby H to the studio – it was his first time here – but by no means the first time for mum, dad and baby sister who had herself been the subject of a newborn photoshoot just over 2 years previously and again as a smiling, giggling 7 month old !

Stubbington 10k – 2014: Camera Equipment Testing

Every January there has always been a short lull after the Christmas rush for portraits where I get chance to plan for the coming year, check out my equipment, and usually rush the final preparation of my accounts ready for the deadline. The Stubbington 10k has always been a useful event to do some of that equipment checking in a real life environment.

Fareham Newborn Portrait Session – 2 week old baby boy

He had a wonderful expression through most of his newborn portrait session and we captured some memorable images in our toasty Fareham studio with some lovely autumn light. Whilst it took a while for him to settle, with the assistance of some careful rocking from yours truly and some recorded womb noises, we keep him in a deep sleep for the short period of time we needed to get some different poses with and without a small selection from our hat collection.

Richmond Park Deer Rut 2013 – Photographing Behaviour

I have been trying to photograph the deer rut for several years and after a couple of poor years for the rut in the New Forest which has resulted in me failing to get a single image I decided to head up to Richmond Park near London to try to photograph their red deer, which are classed as a wild herd, despite being in the royal park.

Studio Lit Birds of Prey Portraits: Take Two

Today I returned to visit some old friends, and some photographers I knew as well ! Back in November last year I spent a day photographing owls and an eagle in a large studio environment, and had such a productive time producing some fine art portraits of these birds that I had to return to both try some different views of the same subjects and also see if I couldn’t capture some new birds to add to my collection of images.

London Fashion Weekend Catwalk Trend Show – Somerset House

The bi-annual fashion frenzy that is London Fashion Week descended upon Somerset House again last week and that means today was London Fashion Weekend – the opportunity for more fashion conscious members of the general public to see the catwalk shows and visit some of the exhibitors. Once again I was in the photographers pit to shoot the Trend Shows, hosted by Angela Scanlon, getting a series of fashion photographs of the models and clothes. The four shows were entitled – Pretty in Pink, Back to Nature, Shape Up and Victoriana and were styled by Pandora Lennard.

Goodwood Revival 2013 – Saturday

My plan for the day was to capture more of the people at the event, and the vintage look. Whilst I love shooting track action there is a very limited market for motorsport action images, most of which would be serviced by commissioned photographers at the event, and I personally had enough from Friday to be able to tick off the track aspect of the Goodwood Revival weekend again my planned editorial coverage. So with smaller, lighter lenses I again made the journey up the A27 to Goodwood, and into the car park for a second day.
