St Anns and Tithe Barn Wedding: Fiona and Rory

Yesterday I photographed the lovely wedding of Fiona and Rory who’s ceremony took place at St Ann’s in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and then onto the reception at the Tithe Barn, Ditcham.

This naval wedding was also a Scottish wedding and the wedding party comprised of a strong contingent of both naval uniforms and kilted gentlemen. As is usual I started with Fiona for her preparations in Southsea and met her mum and sister, Gillian, again as well as her father and other bridesmaid, Natalie. As well as getting some images of Fiona’s make-up I got some beautiful details of her dress and jewellery and the atmosphere in the house.

After a short journey across to Unicorn Gate and through security I headed off to St Ann’s parked up and went to meet the chaplain and registrar before catching up with Rory and his best men, and guard of honour. After some quick portraits it was time to get in position for Fiona to be piped down the short road to the chapel and out of the car in the cold November wind.

A most fantastic ceremony then ensued with the chaplain’s sermon filled with musical references before the marriage took place and it wasn’t long before Fiona and Rory exited under their sword arch. Within a few moments it became clear that the icy wind was not conducive to family portraits outside and so we headed back into St Ann’s for some formal groups at the front of the church and then followed most of the congregation back up to the Tithe Barn in Ditcham. With the guests inside in the warm feasting on canapes and drinks Fiona, Rory and I braved the outside for another 10 minutes to get some more relaxed images in the lane and around the barn itself before they went inside and chatted to their guests.

Again they were piped into the wedding breakfast and after Rory and James, his piper, had downed a whisky from a quaich, the cake was cut and then the food was served with a delicious menu supplied by Vanilla Catering.

A series of heartfelt, and hilarious speeches followed and the guests were then quickly directed to the dance floor to watch Fiona and Rory’s first dance after which a ceilidh struck up and everyone danced around the barn.

Tithe Barn Wedding – second shooting for the UK Wedding Photographer of the Year

I had another wedding to shoot today – but not one of my own !

The current UK Wedding Photographer of the year, David Bryce, had booked a wedding a the Tithe Barn, near Ditcham for today. As I’m very familiar with the venue having shot weddings there in the past, and looking forward to my next one in the coming months David asked me to work with him as his second-shooter for this wedding rather than fly his normal assistant down from Scotland – where David is also based.

So we met up at Old Thorns Hotel where the bride was getting ready and got to work. David followed me to the Tithe Barn, and after a recce where I imparted my knowledge of the venue, light and some of my preferred shooting areas we covered the arrival of the guests before I moved to the front of the barn to cover the ceremony – with David shooting from the back. After the ceremony while David was shooting the groups I got some more informal images, details from the brides dress and flowers, some portraits of the bridal party members and then the details on the wedding breakfast tables.

Once the guests had sat down for their meal I handed over David’s cards and bid him a good evening and farewell as he was covering the speeches and first dance. As such, and as this wasn’t my wedding I have no images to post.

Keep an eye on the blog though as I’ll be photographing Fiona and Rory’s wedding reception there in the Autumn.

Tithe Barn Pre-Wedding Shoot: Fiona and Rory

I have just photographed Fiona and Rory at the Tithe Barn near Petersfield for their pre-wedding shoot. They are getting married in St Ann’s in the Naval Dockyard later in the year and having their wedding reception at the Tithe Barn, and so we headed up there for some relaxed portraits and natural images.

The barn is an amazing venue, and we used some of the main features of the venue outside, as well as the gallery inside and of course the lane. It was great to meet Rory, and also to give both Fiona and Rory some time in-front of the camera before their big day as well as producing some lovely images for them to be able to use before and at the wedding.

Tithe Barn at Ditcham – wedding venue images

As promised here are some more images from Noelle and Ross’ day at the Tithe Barn , DItcham near Petersfield.

These one concentrate on the venue and the food, with wedding caterers and coordinators Jacaranda Catering serving up some wonderful food.

So here are two images of the Tithe Barn which is a wonderful wedding venue. Stunning inside with beautiful architectural features, good lighting, and the ability to seat a large number for both ceremony and meal, and also lovely on the outside with a large courtyard, expanse of grass, great external brickwork and doors, and some stable converted office, and argricultural/commercial building for something a little more contemporary as a photographic backdrop.

Tithe Barn Wedding Photography – Noelle and Ross

So for my first wedding of the year I had the great honour and pleasure of photographing Noelle and Ross’ wedding at the Tithe Barn at Ditcham near Petersfield. A fantastic stone barn which has long been on my list of Hampshire wedding venues that I would love to photograph.

Despite not shooting a wedding for some two months over the winter I quickly got back into the swing of things.

The day started early in Emsworth at the beauty salon, and continued through until late when Ross’ band played to the guests but in between it was a magical story of laughter and tears of joy which I had the opportunity to capture. With a wonderfully sunny and warm February day we took full advantage and as well as the formal group photographs and documentary coverage of the day I was able to spend some time alone with Noelle and Ross which forms the majority of my selected images below.

I’ll update this blog entry with some of the names of the other suppliers once I check the images – but every detail was perfectly organised, and the food was wonderful (watch out for a separate blog entry).

Just next to the barn are some cool sheet metal buildings which we used on the pre-wedding shoot and returned to for some time alone.

And these great blue garage doors in the barn complex - Noelle was amazing today and had some fun !

Noelle and Ross have the dubious privilege of being my first wedding clients (currently) for 2008.

They have selected the wonderful Tithe Barn near Petersfield in Hampshire for their wedding, and so with daylite and sunset in mind we organised a pre-wedding shoot their today for the same time as their ceremony so we knew what to expect – as well as to get some lovely images of the two of them and for us all to get used to the photography so on the day it all runs smoothly and discreetly.

The venue really did give us so many choices from old farm buildings, the barn itself and also some industrial buildings around the car park which had some great metal shutters and some old railway sleepers for boundary walls ! Lots of ideas especially for the wedding itself which I am really looking forward to now ….

We had a great time, and I have some of my favourites from the day below.
