HMS Warrior wedding: Lianne and Iain

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing Lianne and Iain’s intimate wedding aboard HMS Warrior in the Historic Naval Dockyard, Portsmouth.

Despite following the same pattern of the last few days and pouring hard all morning by the time I arrived for this late afternoon wedding the rain had stopped, clouds were breaking and it was turning into a lovely summers day. I quickly navigated the security for the dockyard and made my way to HMS Warrior where I met up with Iain and the guys who were already on board. Having taken their portraits I then busied myself taking the views of HMS Warrior and details to give a sense of place for this wonderful old ship.

Lianne arrived in a stunning new Rolls-Royce Phantom just as the last of the general public were leaving the ship and I quickly positioned myself in my preferred spot in the captain’s cabin for the ceremony. As usual it was a relaxed ceremony with the local registrars allowing me sensible free rein and I captured some lovely moments during the ceremony before we made our way back out on deck for the group shot and the family groups accompanied by a real life sweep.

We had a few moments to capture some images of Lianne and Iain alone before dinner which was held in the ward room, and took an short break before returning to cover the speeches which were moving and heartfelt – but once they were completed, and with the evening guests arriving it was straight through to the gun deck for the cutting of the cake and first dance for Lianne and Iain and then a father – daughter dance immediately afterward.

I met Lianne and Iain early this Sunday morning for their pre-wedding shoot onboard HMS Warrior in the Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth.

With crowds of visitors expecting on HMS Warrior today we arrived at opening time and made our way to the ship to avoid the sightseers and get some relaxed images onboard HMS Warrior which is the venue for Lianne and Iain’s wedding later this summer. The weather was kind if not a little windy, and we soon settled into some great images with the dramatic skies matching this impressive warship.

Having photographed tens of weddings on HMS Warrior it is always good to find new angles, and views and we found some shelter and good light as well as a great backdrop amongst the large orange funnels as well as some of the more classic HMS Warrior images. Fortunately the weather was kind and we spent most of the shoot on deck with some images made at the end on the gun deck with some subdued lighting.

With the photographs completed we left HMS Warrior and went through some of the details of Lianne and Iain’s day over a coffee, and I’m really looking forward to shooting their intimate wedding later in the summer.

HMS Warrior Wedding Photography: Debs and Ian

HMS Warrior was the venue for yesterdays Hampshire wedding, and I was looking forward to photographing Debs and Ian’s wedding, and black tie party in the evening. It had been a while since I had worked on HMS Warrior and I was relishing the opportunity to get some lovely images in the Captain’s cabin for the ceremony, the ward room for dinner and Ian’s speech and then on the gun deck for dinner and dancing.

Debs looked stunning in a burgundy dress and after an emotional ceremony the close group of family and friends enjoyed some champagne before venturing up on deck for a group photograph and some family groups before heading back down in to the warmth while Debs, Ian and I walked around the Warrior to get some lovely images of them together. I left them and photographed the intimate dining area in the ward room dressed for Christmas with the tree and decorations up and then covered Ian’s speech before everyone settled down to dinner.

Later in the day extended friends and family joined the wedding party for an amazing black tie party and were welcomed on board by some sea shanty singers who entertained the tables while dinner was prepared and served along with a table magician and balloon modeller who was happily making sabres, pirate hats and of course puppies, cats and flowers for the ladies. After a warming dinner from County Caterers a Rolling Stones tribute band started their set and the deck erupted into dancing.

With the exception of about 20 minutes after the ceremony the entire wedding was photographed in a documentary style, and here are some of the images from the day. Guests and family should have a small card with details of the full gallery and password – the full set of images should be online by the 21st December.
