This evening I met up with Debra and Matt at the De Vere property in Shedfield – New Place – for their pre-wedding shoot and meeting. Whilst we hadn’t had the torrential rain forecast it was a little misty and drizzly and so we worked as much of the venue outside as possible to give a good flavour of this lovely old house and it’s grounds. We started on some formal portraits before getting some more relaxed and contemporary images.

Then it was time for an opportunity to catch up about their final plans for the wedding day.

I’m shooting Wendy and Martin’s wedding at Marwell Hall later on this year and so this morning we met up at the gates of Marwell Wildlife and headed up to Marwell Hall for their pre-wedding shoot. On the way up we managed to talk a little about Wendy and Martin’s plans for the day and we soon arrived at the Hall which was deserted at this early hour.

As usual I started with some more formal portraits, great practice for their wedding day, before we captured some more contemporary relaxed and informal images of them together and individual portraits using a variety of great locations near the hall. As light drizzle started to come down we called it a day, and headed back to the Marwell Hotel where we grabbed a drink and talked through the specifics of their wedding day before I headed off to backup the images and they met up with their DJ.

Winchester Guildhall was the central venue for this evenings pre-wedding shoot with Becky and Ian. Although they will be getting married at a local church Becky and Ian will be going to Winchester Guildhall for their wedding reception and this was the natural place to do their pre-wedding shoot. We met in the car park, and headed up to the rooms they will be using for their reception, including the main room which was at the time hosting practice catwalk sessions for that evenings Winchester Fashion Show.

After a good look around, and a discussion about wet weather planning, and some of the interior locations for photographs we headed out into the park behind the Winchester Guildhall where we were able to shoot in pretty much any direction with the open shade delivered by an lightly overcast sky. After a quick reccee  I selected a couple of spots and we started shooting with Becky and Ian getting into the swing of things pretty quickly. Having worked the outside we headed back to the entrance of Winchester Guildhall for some more soulful shots with some lovely directional light.

Once we had finished we headed off for a coffee and talked through the details of their wedding day, which I’m really looking forward to.

I met Lianne and Iain early this Sunday morning for their pre-wedding shoot onboard HMS Warrior in the Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth.

With crowds of visitors expecting on HMS Warrior today we arrived at opening time and made our way to the ship to avoid the sightseers and get some relaxed images onboard HMS Warrior which is the venue for Lianne and Iain’s wedding later this summer. The weather was kind if not a little windy, and we soon settled into some great images with the dramatic skies matching this impressive warship.

Having photographed tens of weddings on HMS Warrior it is always good to find new angles, and views and we found some shelter and good light as well as a great backdrop amongst the large orange funnels as well as some of the more classic HMS Warrior images. Fortunately the weather was kind and we spent most of the shoot on deck with some images made at the end on the gun deck with some subdued lighting.

With the photographs completed we left HMS Warrior and went through some of the details of Lianne and Iain’s day over a coffee, and I’m really looking forward to shooting their intimate wedding later in the summer.

Today was my long awaited pre-wedding shoot with Michelle and Jon at both St Cross Church Winchester, and then onto New Place in Shedfield (or Shirral Heath – I’m never sure). Long awaited because I had been to St Cross in 2008, when I assisted another photographer for the day, and had been keen to book a wedding for myself at the venue, and also because I was looking forward to seeing Jon and Michelle again – because despite shooting some commercial work for Jon in Winchester last year it had been some time since they booked me for their wedding.

On a lovely April day we met at St Cross, and after taking a look around the church itself and discussing the ceremony we walked around the impressive gardens and architecture and captured some images of Michelle and Jon alone and then together as a couple. We explored the gardens to find the best areas for some family photographs they would like at St Cross and some of them alone so on the day we are prepared, and can quickly capture them before heading off to the reception venue – New Place.

We again took a walk around the gardens at New Place, using some of my favourite locations, and some new ones to get some more relaxed portraits before heading in for a cool drink and a chart about the details of their day.

We were at Rhinefield House in the New Forest for a pre-wedding shoot earlier today, meeting up with Liz and Carl for some location photography as part of the run-up to their spring wedding at Rhinefield. As usual the House was stunning in the warm afternoon sunlight, and we quickly moved to the gardens at the rear of Rhinefield House to take advantage of the very many areas perfect for a pre-wedding shoot.

We are fortunate enough to photograph quite a few weddings at Rhinefield House every year and really are spoilt for choice but even so there are always a few favourite areas of the grounds which we use because of the light, backgrounds and indeed because they represent and depict Rhinefield House at it’s best. So every pre-wedding shoot we do I try to find a different angle, or feature. I think this year I’m going to be very lucky because I think I’m going to be able to use some wonderful blossom at Liz and Carl’s wedding and two of the images shown here today are test images for when I think the trees are going to be amazing.

We had postponed Katy and Rob’s pre-wedding shoot a few weeks back due to driving rain, and in fairness this was pretty much the first good week we have had since then to go out and make some great photographs of them in the run up to their Surrey wedding later this Autumn. So with a good forecast and us all able to make the date I drove up to Esher to meet up with Katy and Rob for the first time, talk through their day in more detail and take some pre-wedding shoot images.

We started at the Holy Trinity Church in Esher with a scout around the perimeter before heading into the church to look at the vantage points for the ceremony and also to establish that it was suitable for family groups in the possibility that it might rain on the day. Back-up plan formulated we then left for Esher Cricket Club where they will hold their reception in a private marquee.

We took a walk around the edge of the pitch finding some areas of good light and a very cool old pitch roller/tractor which became a feature prop in some of the images…

This morning I met up with Tanya and Mike for their pre-wedding shoot at Marwell Hall. We arranged to meet early at the entrance to the wildlife park and walk up to the Hall overtaking most of the general public and ensuring that we had some peace and privacy for the duration of our pre-wedding shoot.

With the sun obscured by light clouds both the front and back of the hall were in play and we started with the front of this lovely building culminating in a walking shot before moving to the back and the ancient tree followed by the quiet little alcove next to the golden lion tamarins which came out to see us, probably to see what all the laughter was about with both Tanya and Mike enjoying the session.

While we were around the back of the hall we bumped into the lovely Izzy Brown, wedding and events manager, who looks after the weddings at Marwell Hall with her team and we briefly said hello.

With a little practice of some formal poses and lots of relaxed portraits and contemporary images created we headed back to the Marwell Hotel for a quick recap of their September wedding days plans.

Earlier this evening I photographed Christie and Martin’s pre-wedding shoot at the Rhinefield House Hotel in the New Forest.

Although they are not getting married until 2011 Christie and Martin were keen to do their pre-wedding shoot at this time, and it was good timing as well as the grounds will be in similar condition when they get married. It was also great to see them again having initially met at the wedding fair at Botley Park Hotel earlier in the year.

On an overcast day the entire grounds were available for us to use in open soft light and so we walked around most of the extensive rear gardens and also a couple of my favourite spots at the front of the house as well.

Christie and Martin are both dancers and so the posing and acting came naturally, and they are clearly in love making this pre-wedding shoot an absolute delight to photograph, and I’m really pleased with the results. It is amazing how with different couples you can still create unique images and find new locations even in a venue like Rhinefield House where we frequently photograph both pre-wedding shoots and couples weddings.

Yesterday evening I was at the exclusive and luxurious Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey for the pre-wedding shoot of Tatiana and Robert who will be married there later this summer.

Despite it being an overcast day the soft light made for great photographs and we used many of the features of the country house, terrace and surrounding area. Afterwards we went inside and took a look at some of the architecture and worked on how we could incorporate some of these areas into the wedding day without turning it into a photo-shoot.

Tatiana and Robert’s wedding will be a wonderful day and I’m really looking forward to being their wedding photographer.
