Newborn baby photos

This morning I was able to photograph this lovely little  7 day old baby girl in our Fareham studio, here in Hampshire.

Wonderfully asleep and very contented I was able with her mums assistance to carefully get her into the poses and hats without any distress and capture these lovely newborn baby photos before she woke up a little again ready for her next feed.  This contemporary style of newborn photography is now our signature style and we are continuing to build a large selection of backdrops, hats and other props to match both the sex of the baby and their skin, eyes and hair colouring.

Mum managed to get a quick glipse of some of the images before she left and I hope you like them as much as she does.

Marwell Hall wedding album collected by Gemma and Dan

This evening Gemma and Dan came and collected their beautiful Marwell Hall wedding album.

This contemporary panoramic matted album features cedar timber wood covers and a distressed mocca leather spine with white leaves.

The book tells the story of their wedding from hair and make-up early in the morning through to the first dance, and live band playing in the marquee at Marwell. Many of the page designs also feature in the display album which is held at Marwell by the wedding team and which can be viewed on our website as well.

Here are a few images of their album:

St Nicholas on Thorney Island wedding: Rachel and Garry

Saturday was possibly one of the hottest days of the year so far and so I was delighted to be spending it on the very edge of the coast with some cooling sea breezes. Rachel and Garry’s wedding took place on Thorney Island, here in Hampshire, at St Nicholas’ church and then onto the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants Mess for the reception.

I started with Rachel, her mum, and her bridesmaids who were getting ready at a nearby hotel capturing some of the details and preparations as well as getting to know Jo and Claire – bridesmaids for the day. The it was on to Thorney Island to the church to meet the padre and get some images of Garry and the boys and the guests arriving.

After the lovely ceremony we made our way out to the shade afforded by some trees and captured the family groups as well as spending some time alone with Rachel and Garry in some incredible light getting some more relaxed images before leaving for the reception, the wedding breakfast with very moving and fun speeches.

With the speeches concluded it was time for the first dance, and then a Polish wedding tradition with Rachel having her veil removed and donning an apron surrounded by her mum, grandmother and the other female guests. Finally a ceilidah band struck up and every one danced the evening away.

Here are some images from the day. The full gallery will be available soon and anyone without a password should contact Rachel and Garry directly.

Pennyhill Park Hotel: pre-wedding shoot for Tatiana and Robert

Yesterday evening I was at the exclusive and luxurious Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey for the pre-wedding shoot of Tatiana and Robert who will be married there later this summer.

Despite it being an overcast day the soft light made for great photographs and we used many of the features of the country house, terrace and surrounding area. Afterwards we went inside and took a look at some of the architecture and worked on how we could incorporate some of these areas into the wedding day without turning it into a photo-shoot.

Tatiana and Robert’s wedding will be a wonderful day and I’m really looking forward to being their wedding photographer.

Here are some of the images from their pre-wedding shoot.

Gate Street Barn Wedding Album delivered

This evening I popped up the A3 in Hampshire to meet with Katy and Rob one of my couples from last year who were married in the Gate Street Barn in Bramley late last September.

Having travelled down from Leeds that afternoon to visit family I decided to make the short journey to see them and hand over their wedding album personally. The album is a 15×12″ contemporary matted book made in Australia and features a graphite metal cover with a distressed mocca leather spine and white leaves. The album itself is visually stunning and Katy and Rob made a great choice in selecting the materials from our extensive range of leathers, metals and woods. Of course the images inside the album tell a wonderful story of their day and Rob remarked how much it brought back the memories he has of his wedding.

Katy and Rob now have the pleasure of showing their album off to family and friends.

Here are some photos of their wedding album cover and inside leaves:

Hampshire Commercial Photography: Process cooling equipment

This morning I photographed an innovative process cooling unit for an Eastleigh based company.

The unit was in the process of final assembly before being sent to a customer and my client was looking for some high quality images of this new unit for sales and marketing materials (website, brochure etc).

Working carefully in the workshop, and in conjunction with the sales director for guidance on the look of the images and the engineers working on the unit itself we positioned the unit which was about 7-8 feet tall and extremely heavy into a good position and I then photographed it in it’s entirety and key details and features.

Not wanting to slow down the final construction and shipment I checked the images onsite to ensure that I had everything I needed and then departed so they could finish working on it.

Once back at the studio, and after a quick edit of the images, a number were processed including a cut-out of the entire unit to remove the distracting background and provide a neutral backdrop for marketing usage, and then placed on a secure online lightbox for client viewing.

No images until released by the client I’m afraid.

Commercial photography of an industrial estate for brochure and website use

I photographed some industrial units in Fareham over two periods of today. The client is the owner of the site, and they were looking for updated images of some of the units to update their brochure and website.

The weekend was the most logical time to photograph the units because of the reduced amount of traffic, and equipment on site making for a safer environment for the tripod based long exposures required to get high quality images and to ensure images which showed the units themselves off. The job was split into two sections early morning and late afternoon to ensure optimal lighting of the units and also to avoid the hottest part of the day.

All the images were taken on high resolution digital capture equipment using specialist architectural lenses to maintain the verticals and correct perspective.

Here are three example images from the shoot.

This week we have mainly been shooting images

Wow what a week, a fully filled weekend with a wedding and some portrait sessions and lots of jobs to completed since then. We have also had our webhost move to a new data-centre during which we didn’t/couldn’t make any changes to the site.

So this blog post is just to let you know that we are now in the middle of processing sets of images from those shoots and will have some blog entries up very soon to show most of them off, but our priority is to deliver them to our clients.

We are shooting quite a few commercial jobs at the moment and so until those images are released by the client all you will get is some dialogue – but some of it should make for interesting reading.

Please bear with us we should be caught up again for the weekend….

Newborn baby studio portrait session

I have just finished processing another newborn baby shoot from a few days ago. Another little girl – this time three weeks old. This little one had been in the car for a while as her parents travelled down from Surrey for the shoot, and so we worked quickly to take advantage of the last bits of sleep.

As well as getting some great portraits I also focussed on some of the little details until she decided the session was over !

Here are a few of my favourites from the session, view the full to see the 5 images. The parents have a password protected gallery to view the entire session.

Thorney Island pre-wedding shoot: Rachel and Garry

On Sunday I photographed Rachel and Garry on Thorney Island near Emsworth for their pre-wedding shoot. They will be getting married in the 12th century St Nicholas church at the tip of the island right next to the water and remaining on the island for their wedding reception.

We used the church for most of the classical photographs and then as Rachel and Garry got more used to the camera we moved on and after looking around the reception venue took a short drive to the beach where we got some more relaxed images out in the warm early evening sunlight.

Here are some of my favourite images from the day, which you can view by clicking on the thumbnails. The rest can be viewed in the online gallery if Rachel and Garry have provided you with a password – and their dedicated page on our website can be found here and bookmarked to make it easier to return after their wedding.

Manor Barn in Buriton Wedding: Sarah and Tom

Yesterday was the wedding of Sarah and Tom at the Manor Barn in Buriton.

Another wonderfully sunny, bright and warm day perfect for a wedding. I met up with Sarah, her mum, and bridesmaids at the Trooper Inn at Froxfield near Petersfield where Sarah was getting ready and got some details of her dress, jewellery, perfume, shoes and tiara as well as the preparations, hair and make-up. It was also an excellent opportunity to get to meet Susan, Sarah and Eliza and to get to know them a little.

On arrival at the barn I quickly captured the guys, and the guests arriving before Sarah pulled up in a Morgan driven by her father from which she headed off to see the registrars before processing across the courtyard to the barn and then down the aisle towards Tom who was patiently waiting. The ceremony was lovely and they were soon married and out into the sunshine again for drinks and canapes.

With a group shot and some formal photographs out of the way everyone mingled in the courtyard before being called in for speeches, followed by a very tasty hog roast cooked by the caterers – The Barbeque and Banqueting Chef.

I managed then to get a few more minutes with Sarah and Tom in the softer evening light, and wider expanses of shade around the side of the manor house on the impressive lawn and was able to use the dovecote as a feature in some of the images.

Finally the Magic Tones struck up and Sarah and Tom had their first dance and then danced the night away with their guests as I said my goodbyes.

Their gallery can be accessed from Sarah and Tom’s dedicated website page on our site, the password was either on one of the cards available at the wedding breakfast or directly from Sarah and Tom.

Here are some of my early favourites from the day.

Queens Club 2010 – Aegon Championships: Images from Tuesday 8th

Just back from Queens Club in London for the 2010 Aegon Championships and day two of the tournament.

On a changeable day the tennis, and practice, was interrupted by several rain showers but the evening cleared and produced some excellent doubles and beautiful light.

I was stationed on court 9 with a view over to court 10 and had the pleasure of photographing the matches between Richard Gasquet and Rajeev Ram and then the doubles match between Novak Djokovic / Jonathan Erlich and the British pairing of Jamie Delgado and Jonathan Marray with some glimpses of Marin Cilic and Andre Sa playing another British pairing on 10.

When the clouds broke and the dry spells long enough the practice courts also saw a lot of players either warming up or getting a good hit for tomorrows play – notably Rafa Nadal who played for over an hour with a huge crowd in attendance so much so I couldn’t get anywhere close.

Here are some images from the matches. Click on an image to view and then step through the gallery…

Newborn baby photographic session

This little newborn baby is just seven days old, and at a great age to be photographed professionally. Her mum is a long term portrait client of ours, and we were delighted to get the call to hear that she had arrived safely and was ready to be scheduled in for her first portrait session with us.

So today we got some of the very first images using our blankets and cocoon to get these sleepy, dreamy images for her parents. Needless to say these were not the first items we brought out but nothing a little washing won’t fix. We warmed the studio up to ensure that this little one didn’t feel the cold, and made sure that everything was in place to make it as stress free as possible and once fast asleep and comfortable we worked to get the photographs.

The full set of images will be ready soon for our clients to view and make their order, and of course our congratulations go out to them for her safe arrival !

We are looking to follow this session up with another in 2 weeks to get some more images with a different look to them – so check back soon, we also have another newborn session booked to happen soon. So there will be more babies on the blog shortly.

Marwell Hall wedding photography: Danni and Stu

We photographed a wedding on this weekend in 2008 at Marwell Hall and two years later returned in similar weather for the  wonderful wedding of Danni and Stu. This wedding was beautifully animal themed from the tiger and leopard ties, and the wedding breakfast room and table plan.

I started at the Marwell Hotel bumping into Stuart on my way down to see Danni and photographer her preparations, the dress, shoes and jewellery as well as to meet and get to know the bridesmaids and her family. From then on it was up to Marwell Hall and some images of the guys and guests before Danni arrived on the road train and onto the ceremony. Everyone then chilled out on the rear lawn eating ice creams, canapes and cooling down with a drink and some music from the string quartet while we did the family groups and then on to feed the lemurs.

Danni and Stu then had time to relax with their guests on the lawn before the wedding breakfast after which followed a pun-laden father-of-the-brides speech and a moving tribute from the best-man, Stu’s brother Paul. Hula Groove provided the evenings music and I left as the dancing got into full swing with my job done, leaving the guests to enjoy themselves.

Here are a selection of images from the day, which you can view by clicking on them, or stepping through. The full wedding can be seen by guests and friends by going to Danni and Stu’s dedicated wedding page on the website from which you can get to all the galleries, you need to get the passwords from them.

Powdermills Hotel, Battle for the pre-wedding shoot of Helen and Graham

Powdermills Hotel in Battle was the venue for Wednesdays pre-wedding shoot. Helen and Graham are holding their wedding reception at this lovely hotel in the countryside just outside of Battle in East Sussex.  This wedding is a third generation referral as I have photographed the weddings of two of Graham’s work colleagues the first back in 2007, and then another in 2008.

But back to the pre-wedding shoot which took place on a warm and sunny day. After a short walk around the venue we found some of the feature locations at the Powdermills Hotel, working in open shade as usual for soft light and also with some lovely directional lighting in and around the terrace.

I’m really pleased with the images I made for Helen and Graham, who both relaxed into the shoot very quickly and it really shows in the photographs.

Here are a few, the rest will be online for Helen and Graham to view shortly from their main page on the website.
