Chilli Fiesta 2014 at West Dean – a Food and Music Festival in West Sussex
Today I headed over to West Dean in Sussex to photograph the Chilli Fiesta 2014 a food festival in honour of the mighty chilli and the very many varieties. Set in the grounds of West Dean college the festival ran over two days with live music into the night, camping, dancing and of course eating. I had planned to go on the first of the three days but the weather forecast showed that the only day with blue skies and no rain was to be the Saturday and it was a good choice. The sun was out,the mud had dried and the wellies put away for the day.
A quick recce of the site then saw me head back to some of the stalls to shoot the chilli’s and some of the food being prepared whilst it was still relatively quiet I knew that once the crowds arrived it would be impossible to get clean shots. Live music didn’t start until later on and so I shot some of the gardens, and the children’s entertainment.
Once the site filled up with crowds and it became impossible to shoot food and stalls I covered some of the music with the Gosport Big Noise Samba Band a steel band who fully committed to the vibe of this Chilli Fiesta, some latin ballroom dancing with Crystal Main and Patrick Helm, and music from Ranxerita, Gleadhraich and Coco Express who got salsa dancers out onto the area in front of the stage to the delight of the crowds.
Before leaving a caught a ride on the ferris wheel and shot some images of the site, stage and crowds and an aerial general view of the festival from up high, after which I edit my set and sent them off to my agency for distribution.
Here are some of my images from the day.
