London Fashion Weekend – Trend Show Catwalk Photography
The bi-annual fashion frenzy that is London Fashion Week descended upon Somerset House again last week and that means today was London Fashion Weekend – the opportunity for more fashion conscious members of the general public to see the catwalk shows and visit some of the exhibitors. Once again I was in the photographers pit to shoot the Trend Shows, hosted by Angela Scanlon, getting a series of fashion photographs of the models and clothes. The four shows were entitled – Pretty in Pink, Back to Nature, Shape Up and Victoriana and were styled by Pandora Lennard.
Having the opportunity to cover two of the trend shows meant that I could try some different ideas, and some different equipment as the frantic pace of the show means there is little time to change kit, or to review images and make changes mid-flow.
The London Fashion Weekend marquee is now double the size it has been previously resulting in a completely different configuration for the show. The raised catwalk was gone and the models now walked in a U shaped route past two avenues of spectators. Sadly this removed the traditional pose from the models at the end of the runway allowing the photographers to capture some attitude or expression before they headed back down the runway. The focus was therefore on getting good quality full-length, half-length and headshot images showcasing the clothing and limited accessories in this years show.
With a decent amount of experience now I came well prepared with both photographic kit and a small step to give me an unobstructed view over the other photographers and broadcast cameras which had prime position front and centre of the pit. I easily shot over the top of them from a good central position, a significant improvement from my position and viewpoint in the Spring shows back in February.
Here are a small selection from my initial review of the images.
